artful sentiments
Artful Sentiments was born of printmaker Molly Broadley's passion to print. Molly's delightful designs are created using traditional lino block printing techniques. The original designs are sketched, transferred to a block, and then carved by hand. Once the block is complete, ink is applied using a brush or brayer, and the inked block is pressed onto the paper. In some cases, multiple blocks are used to achieve a single design. As with all hand printing techniques, variations are expected from one print to the next, which adds to the appeal of these charming works of art. Erin McKenna Nowak, has been creating art and day dreaming about weddings since she was a little girl. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design and printmaking, she worked in New York City, Chicago and Providence, RI, as everything from a children’s book designer to the art director of several medical magazines. In 2004 Erin started Bride Design, where she creates couture wedding and event invitations, announcements, wedding programs, reception accessories, and social stationery. marzipan inc. was started with a dream. a girl who joked that she would someday rule the world with a business of her own, soon found her dream unfolding in front of her. it all started when lori made her wedding invitations in the fall of 2001. finding that she loved the process, her dream business started to emerge. that year she made small sets of handcrafted greeting cards to give to friends and family for christmas. the praise she received was unanimous and prompted her to take her dream more seriously. she approached several stores with her new cards in hand. to her delight, nearly every store she visited placed orders for her handcrafted originals. soon her little business was bustling. now with two little boys at home, she's more determined than ever to live her dream everyday. Los Angeles sisters, Susie & Heidi Bauer, founded Rock Scissor Paper in 1993 as an independent source for colorful, modern stationery and gifts. From their Los Angeles area studio, they create a huge selection of greeting cards, stationery, tote bags and home accessories, all featuring their original illustrations and unique, colorful style. Their illustrations are created jointly and are reflective of their upbringing in sunny California in the 70's and 80's. Shimmer Studio is the creation of artist Dana Bowers and came to being after many years of toiling as a graphic designer in the corporate world and beyond. Several years ago Dana embarked on a search for the perfect medium to express her artistic vision and after considerable exploration she discovered letterpress printing. Letterpress printing beautifully accentuates her whimsical illustrations of the natural world. Each design began as a hand drawn sketch in one of Dana’s many moleskine sketchbooks. Sophie and Spice owner Jill Pearson received her BFA from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and began her career as an editorial illustrator. She has received awards from national illustration institutions and has exhibited in shows in NYC. After the birth of her daughter in 2006, she decided to switch gears and created Sophie and Spice. The site offers mommy cards, pop art, nursery art, and more. Her colorful, funky designs have been featured in national parenting magazines and on numerous websites. Vicki Shields is a designer and mother of two based in Baltimore. An inveterate doodler and crafty mama, she founded Three Wheels Design three years ago with the idea of creating “modern paper for the modern family.” Three Wheels products include birth announcements, invitations, personalized stationery, and everyday notes. There is power in paper, and Vicki finds inspiration in everything from vintage wall paper to her daughter’s handmade sweaters to her children’s favorite toys. As a first time mom, Lara Frankovitch search near and far for the "perfect" baby book. Unable to find one that was flexible enough for both the big firsts and daily special moments, she created a baby memory kit to buy time with a convenient place to jot down the stories. When she realized other moms may have the same problem, she started Tiny Tales and later expanded the product line to include babysitter and daycare memory-keeping solutions. So was born a company dedicated to finding the perfect recipe for life's moments. And yes, she is still using her original Tiny Tales kit, 3 years and 1 more baby boy later.
